FAQs

We’re here to be that trustworthy resource and sense of relief as you and your family adjust to your newborn in those early weeks. Get to know a little more about who we are, what we do, and how we can help.

What is a night nanny?

A night nanny provides overnight infant care including feeding, burping, diapering, soothing, swaddling, and bathing when needed so parents can get a full night’s rest knowing their little one(s) are being cared for. Our nannies are available for 8 to 12 hours a night, up to six nights a week, between the hours of 7 pm and 8 am.

Indy Night Nanny also provides sleep coaching; guidance on developing healthy routines and schedules; and shares tips, tricks, and insights from our years of experience to equip parents to feel confident in caring for their newborn(s). Our team members are all CPR certified, background checked, and have years of experience caring for newborns.

How can a night nanny help our family?

A night nanny allows parents to get a full night’s sleep without interruption. Experienced, knowledgeable nannies help get your baby on a path to sleeping through the night as well which leads to healthier outcomes for them and the entire family. Decreasing sleep deprivation is a vital part of maintaining health and productivity.

Most parents feel better prepared to face the day and whatever it may bring after a restful night of sleep. Indy Night Nanny clients report being able to better care for their newborn and other children, focus at work, and make time for themselves and their spouse. Some parents are able to lean on the support of family members and close friends to help get them through the early stages of welcoming another baby into the family, but often family members live too far away or only help for a short period of time. Our night nannies will soon become like family to you, too.

How is a night nanny different from a daytime nanny or babysitter?

Babysitters and daytime nannies may love newborns too, but our team is solely focused on nighttime care and sleep routines, with years of experience and expertise getting babies on paths to quality sleep. Our night nannies assist and support parents in caring for their newborns, instilling confidence to navigate this challenging time. Families may trust the care of a babysitter for a short period of time, but prefer to hire professionals for extended overnight care.

How long do families use night nannies?

Each family has different needs and specific circumstances, and we work to understand those during our initial consultation. We find our services most successful when families hire us to begin care as soon as they come home from the hospital while the parents adjust and mom recovers from delivery.

We suggest care through at least six weeks of age and recommend through 12 weeks and beyond to establish healthy habits and routines. By after about three months, most babies are well on their way to sleeping through the night on their own. Indy Night Nanny is flexible to the needs and desires of the family, and always available to assist as one or both parents transition back to work.

Do you care for multiples?

Yes, we have extensive experience caring for twins and triplets. Our experienced night nannies can work in tandem with a parent to care overnight for multiples or take care of them independently. Indy Night Nanny makes it possible for twin or triplet parents to get the sleep they need to be healthy.

Do you care for premature babies and NICU graduates?

Yes, we have cared for premature babies (singletons, twins, and triplets), babies fed by NG tubes and G tubes, and those who need medication.

Can I still breastfeed with night nanny care?

Yes! Many mothers choose to nurse just before the arrival time of the nanny and even throughout the night, with the nanny handling all other care in between feedings, including diaper changes and burping, to extend the amount of sleep moms can get in between feedings. Mothers of multiples have also found it helpful to have an extra set of hands. Indy Night Nanny promotes breastfeeding and will always work with moms to make it possible.

The nanny care that we received from Indy Night Nanny was exceptional in all areas. Not only did their care allow us to sleep soundly knowing that our twins were being well taken care of, but each person employed by Indy Night Nanny has a vast knowledge of infant care, sleep training, and much more that they readily shared with us. We would recommend Indy Night Nanny to anyone!
